A point of discussion around the bar this week has been the planned closure of the Factory Road bridge just north of US 35 in Beavercreek. According to the Greene County OH project plans for 2012, this is outside the scope of the planned work for this year. So what’s up?
I contacted Bob Geyer, the Greene County Engineer this week to get the scoop. According to Bob the bridge was slated to be removed altogether during the major construction that is planned for US35 to remove the at grade, or intersection, crossings on US35 to make it stoplight free. However, this $100M+ project has now been delayed until at least 2030. With the delay, safety concerns over the existing bridge is driving a rehabilitation project to be done now. According to Bob the bridge beams will be replaced and repairs will be done to concrete exhibiting spalling. The work is to be complete August 17th.
The project will be paid for by funds raised through the existing bridge levy. The project is estimated to cost $250,000 and Brumbaugh Construction of Arcanum Ohio is the contractor. Detours will be posted as follows: Eastbound will be US 35 to Trebein to Dayton-Xenia and westbound will be US 35 to Fairfield to Dayton-Xenia.
My thanks to Bob Geyer for the information.
